Frequently asked questions

Are the platform length hints exact limits?
They are helpful guidelines, not guaranteed limits. Platforms change their rules, so always double-check when it matters.
Does it store what I type?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded or saved.
How is reading time calculated?
It is estimated from your word count using a common average reading speed, not from analyzing sentence complexity.
Does it count spaces as characters?
The main character count includes spaces; a separate "no spaces" count is shown alongside it for when you need that instead.
Does it update while I am still typing, or only after I stop?
It updates on every keystroke — there is no button to click and no delay.
How are paragraphs counted?
A paragraph is any block of text separated from the next by at least one blank line — it does not need to be a grammatically complete paragraph.
Does "..." get counted as three sentences?
No. A run of consecutive punctuation like "..." or "?!" counts as a single sentence ending, not one per character.
Does it count words correctly for languages without spaces, like Chinese or Japanese?
Not precisely. Word counting is based on whitespace between words, so a run of characters with no spaces is counted as a single word — for those languages, the character count is more meaningful than the word count.
